Digital versatile discs, better known as DVDs, are data storage forms. Some people incorrectly call it a digital video disc.
The standard DVD format allows for two sides, each with two layers.
Dual-Layer Capacity
Dual-layer capacity allows it to reach the end of the line, as longer and more detailed movies hit the shelves. Answering to this, two competing standards have emerged to succeed DVD. HD-DVD and Blu-ray are currently vying for market dominance.
